Takeaways from recent industry learning on risk and project controls, and how we apply them on projects.

Risk management that improves decisions

Risk work should improve decisions, not reports

The useful test is not whether the register is complete, but which decision got better because of the work. Start from the decision: proceed, change scope, stage delivery or choose a procurement route.

A register is a record, not intelligence

Keep the register as project memory, then watch what is changing. Link assumptions to early indicators, act on weak signals, and notice risks that drop out of conversation without being resolved.

Every concern needs a decision attached

Reports often flag a problem without saying what has to happen next. Each concern should come with what changed, why it matters, what needs deciding and the latest date to decide it.

Ranges beat single numbers

A single cost or date becomes a commitment the moment it is written down. Report confidence ranges, the assumptions behind them and what drives them, and treat connected risks as connected.

Five questions for every major decision

  1. 1What are we assuming?
  2. 2What could change?
  3. 3How confident are we?
  4. 4What would we see early?
  5. 5What options do we have?

How we work

  1. Review

We first secure any notice deadlines about to expire, then review your documents: the contract, the BOQ and the project records.

  2. Assess

We test the assumptions, map entitlements, risks and dependencies, and put honest ranges on cost and time.

  3. Advise

You get clear options and a recommendation: what changed, why it matters, what to decide and by when.

  4. Deliver

We prepare what is needed and keep it on track, from notices, claims and programmes to reporting, procurement and AI workflows. That can be a single task or an ongoing role for the whole contract, such as Independent Certifier, contract administrator or financial management of claims and invoicing.
